Sex, Murder, and the Trial That Changed America!
Got your attention?
We usually write about movies, but the Concession Stand is about cool things of all flavors - including books.
Star Spangled Scandal: Sex, Murder, and the Trial That Changed America meets the cool test.
Written by New York Times Best Selling Author Chris DeRose, SSS examines the 1859 murder of Philip Barton Key, son of Francis Scott Key (the guy who wrote the song we try to sing to at baseball games), and the trial of his killer, Daniel Sickles. Oh yeah, Sickles was a Congressman from New York and Key was the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia…Key was also having an affair with Sickles’ young - and beautiful - wife, Teresa.
The story became one of the first nationally covered scandals of its day, and precedents set in the trial of Sickles continue to affect American murder trials.
You are missing out if you haven’t read this and Chris’ other works. In addition to writing about crime (Chris is, among other things, a lawyer and former Senior Litigation Counsel to the Arizona Attorney General), he has written some super books on Congressman Lincoln, America’s slide into the Civil War, and the relationship between James Madison and James Monroe. We’ll link to them at the end.
Chris’ latest book is The Fighting Bunch, a look at WWII veterans rising up to fight political corruption in a small Tennessee county.
Give him a read. You won’t be disappointed.
